Is Health and Safety something that you look at only when there’s an incident or do you conduct regular assessments?
When was your last Health and Safety inspection?
Health and Safety became an issue with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, so it’s now a forty year-old piece of legislation. It’s been updated and amended to reflect working practices and has, so far, reduced accidental deaths in the workplace by 85%.
This means that, although many employers view it as a piece of law that sometimes gets in the way, it’s not actually a bad thing to work with it. HR Hound takes a pragmatic, sensible view to help you operate your business safely.
Most aspects are based on common sense. For example – if you have a new piece of high-voltage equipment installed, make sure that the isolation switch is clearly marked and that the nearest fire point has only suitable fire extinguishers. People can do stupid things when they panic and the last thing you need is someone deploying a water-gas extinguisher while the equipment is still live.
